CQ RASN Tough and Tender Beauty Artist ‘at home’ Residency Program
Tough and Tender Beauty Artist ‘at home’ Residency Program
Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network celebrates and supports regional artists with the Tough and Tender Beauty Artist ‘at home’ residency!
Our regions had already gone through a lot in recent years with drought, fire and floods, and now the world is being impacted by the COVID20 global pandemic. Through these tough times and working through the arts, individuals and communities find and create moments of beauty. There is beauty and tenderness to be found in the toughest of times, environments and landscapes, in the ways people dig deep, respond, create and reimagine.
Tough and Tender is the signature project for the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network for 2020-21 and will profile the diversity of our regions, and the importance of the arts for creative response, resilience, recovery, memorialising and celebration. A range of activities will take part place over the next 15 months with a culmination weekend in June 2021.
As phase 1 of that project CQ RASN invited artists/creative practitioners from diverse artforms to engage in a one-month residency ‘at home’, the first residency began on the 4th May 2020. An initial selection of 6 artists from diverse regions and artforms engaged in their own practice and way of working reflecting upon the current context and responding to the theme. These artists shared aspects of their process or work through platforms such as blogs, podcasts/artist talk and social media posts throughout the month. Since the May residency we have had ‘at home’ residencies in June and July with over 20 artists supported across our region to date and sharing their creative journey’s via our blog and social media. Follow us on facebook and our website for announcements.
